A new project on circularity in the manufacture of refractories.
Refractaria has Refractaria has launched a new project on circularity in the manufacturing process of refractory products.
The project aims to establish a new processing line for grinding and classifying fractions of alumina-based refractories with Al2O3 concentrations ranging from 26% to 99%. These materials, which contain additives such as silicon carbide, zirconium and chromium, come from manufacturing rejects and end-of-life linings.
Implementing this project will enable the production of refractory materials with a reduced carbon footprint, allowing the company to offer products with a significantly lower environmental impact. Similarly, the project will contribute to the vertical integration of all processes required for comprehensive waste management, including waste collection, optimisation of waste recovery percentages, incorporation into the production process, and reapplication of the product at customer facilities.
The project 'Optimisation of circularity in the manufacturing process of refractory products' has received funding from the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO) as part of the 2024 call for grants to promote the circular economy in companies, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) and financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
